Overview of The Kensington Police Protection & Community Services District

Kensington is an unincorporated community of about 2200 homes, located in the East Bay Hills between Berkeley and El Cerrito. Kensington maintains its own police department, as well as park and recreation programs for all ages, via the Kensington Police Protection & Community Services District. The Kensington Fire Protection District provides fire protection and emergency medical services via a contract with El Cerrito.

MOUNTAIN LION SIGHTING REPORTED ON JANUARY 10, 2012

The UC Berkeley Police Department received a report of a Mountain Lion sighting near their Clark Kerr Campus in the Berkeley Hills. A few days prior to the Berkeley sighting, a Kensington Resident had her dog attacked by an unknown animal.

The Kensington Police Department would like to urge residents to excercise caution when hiking or taking their dogs on walks. If you think you see a mountain lion in town, please call 911 to report the sighting so that we may investigate.

THE DEA FOURTH NATIONAL TAKE BACK INITIATIVE HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2012

The Kensington Police Department will be participating in the DEA Fourth National Take Back Initiative. This will take place at 217 Arlington Ave between the hours of 10:00A.M. to 2:00P.M.

This is a great opportunity to dispose of any unused medications, hypodermic needles, and controlled substances that you may have in your residence.

Information on Hazardous Waste Disposal and Recycling.

Links to the West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority have been added under the Kensington Community/Public Services section of the website. A direct link to this page has been provided here.

We have recently received several informational requests from residents about how they can properly dispose of their old pharmaceuticals. This information is available on the West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority website. The Kensington Police Department and Fire Department also participate in the National Drug Take-Back event (hosted by the DEA) where pharmaceuticals and controlled substances can be dropped off at the Kensington Public Safety Building. The event dates will be posted under this section of the website once made available by the DEA.

Bay View Refuse & Recycling Service, Inc Letter to General Manager/Chief of Police Greg Harman.

During the June 9, 2011 KPPCSD Board Meeting, Lewis Figone, the President of Bay View Refuse & Recycling Service, Inc., handed GM/COP Greg Harman a letter and then left the meeting. The letter was a request for approval of assignment of the Franchise Agreement to Republic Services, Inc.

Street Sweeping Notice

Starting January 2010, the following streets will be swept as part of the Kensington SW Route on the first Friday of each month:

  • Arlington Avenue
  • Ardmore Road
  • Berkeley Park Boulevard
  • Beverly Road
  • Colusa Avenue
  • Coventry Road
  • Edgecroft Road
  • Kingston Road
  • Lenox Road
  • Lexington Road
  • Oak View Avenue
  • Ocean View Avenue
  • Santa Fe Avenue
  • Stratford Road
  • Valley Road

Please keep the roadway clear on the first Friday of every month by doing the following:

  • Move your vehicle and garbage/recycling containers
  • Clear any obstructions or large debris from the gutter
  • Remind your neighbors of the sweeping schedule
  • Trim back vegetation along the curb and sidewalk
  • Do not pile leaves or green waste in the roadway
